Help Simon!

Simon's Saturday 2/18/2012

Simon is a 2nd grade student at St. Ann's School. He's been fighting leukemia for most of his life and wil be undergoing a bone marrow transplant on February 9th. There are many children and adults who also need this life saving transplant - anyone of them could be your child, sibling, parent or friend. So, let's celebrate Simon and his fight by getting swabbed. February 18th will be a bone marrow donor drive. A quick cheek swab and you will be entered into the donor database. It's fast, easy and saves lives. Please click here for a copy of the flyer with more information. You can also search for "Simon's Saturday - Bone Marrow Drive" on Facebook, or call Kelly Sisonick at 484-347-7258 or email her at kelly.sisonick@parentebeard.com. Please help if you can. Everyone deserves a chance at life.

Proposition 8, a CA  voter approved state constitutional amendment that protected the definition of marriage as between 1 man and 1 woman, had been challenged in CA Supreme court by pro-same-sex marriage groups. They had alleged that it violated equal protection and sought to overturn the measure, despite the majority voter approval. The CA Supreme Court today has upheld the validity of Proposition 8. Here's a brief history of the Memorial Day holiday, that I found quite interesting:

After the bloody war between the States, citizens of the North and the South felt a need to honor those fallen in the war. On various days people from different communities would place flowers at the graves of those they wished to honor. The day came to be known as Decoration Day. By 1868, the northern states were keeping the day on May 30.

In 1882, the day was renamed Memorial Day and extended to honor the fallen...

Here we are on the leading edge of Memorial Day Weekend. Most folks view this time as a day off from work, the opening of pools, and the unofficial start of the summer season.  However, there is a very important aspect to this holiday that we seldom take the time to think about. It is a day, set aside in our country, to remember those in our military that died in service to others. Please remember in prayer and deed, all of our brave men and women that have fallen, for our sake, due to the perils of war.

The previous blog post told you of what the PA legislators are doing to support Marriage Protection in PA. If you are asking, "well, now what?", the answer is simple. Write to your state rep and senator urging them to vote in favor of marriage protection - ie. one man, one woman. Tell them that by protecting the sanctity of marriage, it will contribute to the procreation of children, strengthening of  families and the betterment of our society. Use the links on the left to locate your rep and write to them today!

MARRIAGE AMENDMENT BILL INTRODUCED BY SENATOR JOHN EICHELBERGER. APPLAUDED BY PA4MARRIAGE COALTION

Harrisburg, PA – May 19, 2009 – Pennsylvania for Marriage Coalition salutes Senator John Eichelberger's decision to introduce a marriage protection amendment in the Pennsylvania Senate today.

“With recent states like Iowa, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia redefining marriage either through judicial activism or legislative maneuvering, we believe it is time for the people of Pennsylvania to have the opportunity to vote to preserve marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” stated Deborah Hamilton, spokesperson for the PA4Marriage Coalition.
