About a week ago, after much outcry, the Federal Government issued what it called a compromise to the contraception mandate of the healthcare bill commonly called 'Obamacare'. It's funny how the news cycle works, however, and now there's not the same level of coverage in the media about this topic. The Catholic church rightfully took a little time to study the changes, but since many other things have happened in the past week, all that the news captured was that there was a compromise offered and that the Church... | By Knight Blogger on 1/23/2012 4:58 PM
"Literally unconscionable" is how the US Catholic Bishops described a recent ruling from the department of Health and Human Services regarding an aspect of the healthcare reform legislation. It requires that all Americans, as of August 1st 2012, purchase government approved health insurance that provides for sterilizations and FDA approved contraceptives, including those that cause abortions.
As such, employers must provide insurance plans that cover those services. Therefore, as a Catholic, you will be required by law to either purchase or supply a product that includes provisions for things we believe as violating moral law. ... | By Knight Blogger on 12/23/2011 4:31 AM
It's hard to believe we are just days away from Christmas and also the start of a new year. There have been many holiday themed tv shows and Christmas movies on tv. A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott and White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye have been played several times over each. There's one movie quote though, I wanted to share with you. It's not from a movie usually associated with Christmas, but it takes place during the Christmas season. It's titled "The Bishop's Wife". If you've never seen... | By Knight Blogger on 10/16/2009 1:09 PM
You can't turn on the news anymore without hearing the words 'heath care reform', followed by lots of conflicting information, yea's, nay's, cheers and jeers. It is an important topic as it affects everyone in our country medically and financially. Pennsylvania's Catholic Bishops recently discussed this hot topic. The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference web site covered this story and you can see it by clicking here. ... | By Knight Blogger on 8/3/2009 8:01 PM
While the debate over health care reform rages on (what is it, who gets it, who pays for it), Cardinal Rigali wrote on July 29 to the members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee urging them to amend “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act” (H.R. 3200) to retain longstanding government policies on abortion and conscience rights.

MARRIAGE AMENDMENT BILL INTRODUCED BY SENATOR JOHN EICHELBERGER. APPLAUDED BY PA4MARRIAGE COALTION
Harrisburg, PA – May 19, 2009 – Pennsylvania for Marriage Coalition salutes Senator John Eichelberger's decision to introduce a marriage protection amendment in the Pennsylvania Senate today.
“With recent states like Iowa, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia redefining marriage either through judicial activism or legislative maneuvering, we believe it is time for the people of Pennsylvania to have the opportunity to vote to preserve marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” stated Deborah Hamilton, spokesperson for the PA4Marriage Coalition. ... | By Knight Blogger on 4/8/2009 4:33 PM
Recent posts on the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference website details several new challenges and threats to the Defense of Marriage and Pro-Life measures that the K of C is actively supporting. The Iowa Supreme Court has overturned their state marriage law, effectively legalizing gay marriage.
The PA legislature is trying to fast-track a bill making sexual orientation a protected class under PA state law. Go to the PCC website or click here to find out how to urge your PA state rep to vote NO to... | By Knight Blogger on 12/22/2008 3:41 PM
In the Christmas message posted further above, you are asked to also remember our service men and women who won't be home this Christmas. Last year, we posted a notice about a free service from Xerox called "Let's Say Thanks". Using their website (http://www.letssaythanks.com/Home1280.html) you can type up a message in a card that they will print and give to Give2TheTroops to include in the care packages they make and distribute to our troops. Go ahead and say "Thanks!". ... | By Knight Blogger on 12/22/2008 3:08 PM | By Knight Blogger on 12/6/2008 8:41 AM | By Knight Blogger on 10/29/2008 3:16 PM

Cardinal Egan, of New York, had published a very thought provoking article regarding the beginning of life debate. From his letter:
"If there is a time when something less than a human being in a mother morphs into a human being, it is not a time that anyone has ever been able to identify, though many have made guesses. However, guesses are of no help. A man with a shotgun who decides to shoot a being that he believes may be a human being is properly hauled before a judge. And hopefully, the judge in... | By Knight Blogger on 9/10/2008 9:23 AM
This article from Fr. Tom Euteneuer of Human Life International talks about the use of the internet to encourage the continued rejection of God among members of our society. According to their website, "The mission of HLI is to promote and defend the sanctity of life and family around the world according to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church through prayer, service and education.".
