The Back Story of the Food Drive for the Carmelite Nuns

St. Ann’s Knights of Columbus have learned that the nuns of the Carmelite Monastery on Lanark Rd. in Coopersburg are in sore distress. Their numbers have dwindled down to four elderly nuns plus four caretaker nuns from the Philippines. Because they are a cloistered order, meaning they never leave the monastery, they have few resources. Their supporters and donors are also generally elderly and dwindling. These holy women are in dire need of food and household supplies.

Therefore the Knights are holding a Food Drive for the nuns on Saturday, May 21, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Parish Life Center on Fairview Street, Emmaus. Please drop off non-perishable food and household supplies between those hours. The Knights will box your donations and deliver them to the monastery.

ITEMS TO DONATE: The nuns lead simple lives therefore no spicy food and no caffeine please. Some have dietary restrictions and therefore lite (low sugar) and low sodium products are appreciated.

FOOD: Non-perishable canned and dry goods such as canned vegetables, juices, canned fruits, canned stews, canned tuna, applesauce, soups, jellies, preserves and peanut butter, low sodium broths, olive oil, rice, boxed potatoes, mac and cheese, pasta, turbinado sugar, tea bags (regular and herbal),
